Rosalie Ruth Palermo
Rosalie R. Palermo, 87, passed peacefully on April 21, 2021 in the comfort of her home with her husband Vince by her side.
Rosalie was born on July 26, 1933 in Randolph, VT to Milton F. and Ruth E. (Doyle) Gilley. She spent her early years in Chelsea and Tunbridge, VT. The family moved to Richmond, VT in 1943.
Rosalie graduated from Richmond High School in 1951. Following graduation she attended and graduated from the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing.
She married her high school sweetheart, Vincent Palermo, on October 30, 1954. After spending a couple of years in Charleston, SC while Vince served in the Navy, they returned to Richmond, VT. Rosalie was active in the community working for the Head Start program, substituting for the school nurse in most of the schools in Richmond and the Mount Mansfield District.
She and Vince rarely missed a concert, sporting event, or play. They travelled the state in all kinds of weather to participate in whatever their boys were involved in; wrestling matches, baseball games, and track and field. They especially were involved in the wrestling community often hosting the team for meals. They hosted an annual spaghetti dinner for the wrestling team. In her later years she enjoyed the social community of the 55 plus Ski Club at Smugglers Notch.
Rosalie was an active member of the Our Lady of the Holy Rosary parish. She enjoyed and participated in parish fundraising events, and in her later years playing the piano and organ for the church choir. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Rosalie was predeceased by her parents Milton and Ruth, her son Francis, her brother Delwin Gilley of Starksboro, VT and her grandson John Rose-Palermo of Phoenix, AZ.
She is survived by her husband, Vince Palermo, of Bolton and her sons, Vince Palermo, Jr. and his wife Janice of Phoenix, AZ, James Palermo and his wife Melissa of Sarasota, FL, Timothy Palermo and his wife Judy of Milton, VT, Thomas Palermo and his wife Lorrene of Georgia, VT, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The Palermo family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the home caregivers who spent time with our mother and to the UVM Home Hospice program whose staff provided excellent loving care to Mom.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Holy Rosary Parish in Richmond, VT, Saturday, May 29, 2021 at 11 AM.
