Muriel Louise Rees, born August 27, 1924 to the late Alexander and Anna (Meyer) Hamilton, passed away peacefully Monday, April 20, 2020 in St. George, Vt.

The youngest of the Hamilton sisters, family meant everything to Muriel. She married her childhood sweetheart, Frank, and raised their children Sandy and Robert in Weehawken, NJ before moving to Rahway, NJ in 1967, where she lived until 2018. He called her his sweetheart for all 66 years of their marriage.

She was “Grammy” to 5 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and could always be counted on to go to their concerts or games, play cards, call on birthdays, visit a museum or ride a roller coaster.  Muriel loved singing and playing piano, listening to the birds, exploring craft fairs with her daughter, and she was proud that she was the one who taught her son to play baseball.

Muriel was predeceased by her husband, Frank Rees, as well as her sisters, Ruth Kersten and Anna Spankuch and grandson, Eric John Otten. She is survived by her daughter Sandy Twombly and son-in-law Bob Twombly (who she fondly referred to as “my friend”); son Robert and daughter-in-law Susan; grandchildren Donna, Christine (David), Jessica (Leonard), Scott (Meaghan) and Alex (Alethea); great-grandchildren Jeffrey, Jennifer (Christopher), Braden, Emma, Matthew, Katie, Ryan, Nicholas, Evan, Madeline, Charlotte, many nieces and nephews, as well as her church family at 1st Presbyterian Church of Rahway and her hospital family at the RWJ University Hospital at Rahway auxiliary gift shop.

Funeral services are private. A memorial service will be planned for a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rahway Auxiliary, RWJ University Hospital-Rahway, 865 Stone St, Rahway, NJ 07065, Attn: Chris Kline.
