Barbara Jean (Little)(Martin) Kenfield

August 22, 1936 ~ December 2, 2021 (age 85)

Barbara Jean (Little)(Martin) Kenfield passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2021, in the ICU at the UVM Medical Center.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of the University of Vermont Medical Center for their care and compassion of Barbara during her final days. A special thank you to Fred Little Jr. and his wife Draggy, thanks to her intuition they were able to spend some time with Barbara during her final hours while family was enroute to the hospital so she was never alone, this means more than words can describe.

Barbara was born August 22, 1936, in Burlington, VT, daughter of William A. and Marion L. (Hallock) Little, Sr.

Barbara graduated from Burlington High School in 1954 and then attended Jeanne Mance School of Nursing graduating in 1959. Her nursing career as a R.N. spanned 37 years, working in labor & delivery, Elizabeth Lund Home, Fletcher Allen Health Care and Associates in OB-Gyn.

She was an important part of many lives from her family, her extended family, her friends, her “Testing Room” parents to her wildlife friends and especially her felines Frisky, Sandy, Sasha and Sophie.

She was a proud member of the Community Church of Huntington, choir, trustee and church board. Always helping out for fund raisers and especially enjoyed waitressing at the annual Hunters Breakfast.

She also enjoyed needle crafts especially knitting and needle point projects. Photography was another passion, armed with her “weapons” (as the grandkids would say) camera & camcorder, she would spend hours filming her grandkids and backyard wildlife.

On October 10, 1999, Barbara married her best friend and soulmate Morris Wellesley Kenfield. Together they enjoyed the YMCA, traveling the country camping, music and dancing. Routine trips to NYC, Panton, New Haven, East Thetford, Maine, Texas, Hawaii and various state fairs filled their many years together.

She has earned our utmost respect and admiration by giving us her greatest gift of all, she gave of herself.

Barbara leaves behind three sons Stephen D. Martin and his partner Tammy of Newport News, VA, David A. Martin of Westfield, MA and Andrew B. Martin and his wife Miranda (Howard) Martin of East Thetford VT. Eight grandchildren Devan, Kyle, Amanda, Shawn, Drew, Sarah, Lindsey, Zachary and one great grandchild Harrison. Three brothers William A. Little and his wife Delberta of Huntington Ctr. VT, sister in-law Dorothy (Jacques) Little of Huntington VT, Frederick A. Little and his wife Nancy of Chazy, NY and Robert A. Little Sr. and his partner Elaine of Milton, VT along with several nieces and nephews.

Barbara also leaves her second family – three step son’s Alan L. and his wife Tabitha Kenfield of Alvin TX, Dexter L. and his wife Susan Kenfield of Tucson AZ, Terry Kenfield and his wife Martha of Panton, VT; Two step daughters, Brenda J. Kenfield of Oro Valley, AZ and Linda Jerome and her husband David of Kihei, HI and four step grandchildren.

Predeceasing her was her mother Marion L. Rocque on February 20,1998, her brother Roger G. Little on August 15, 2006 and her husband Morris W. “Mo” Kenfield on August 15, 2012.

A service will be held at the Community Church of Huntington on January 15, 2022, at 11:00 am. A reception will follow the service in the church annex where friends and family are encouraged to share any memories they have of Barbara.
