Alexis J. Parent, Jr.
Richmond, VT
July 2, 1926 – June 26, 2021

Alexis “Bill” Parent was accepted by his Lord on Saturday June 26, 2021 at the age of 94 years.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY while his parents were traveling back to Richmond, the son of Alexis J., Sr. and Goldia (Bessette) Parent. He graduated from Richmond High School, after spending time in the US Navy, he attended the University of Vermont. After holding various jobs, he owned and operated Richmond Garage, a car and truck body shop in Richmond for over 40 years. In Richmond he was a member of the Hale & Hearty Seniors Group and the Community Senior Center.


He served in the US Navy for 42 years serving in World II and Vietnam, retiring from the Naval Reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. In June 2019 the North Country Honors Flight organization made it possible for Alexis to visit Washington, D.C., to visit the World War II memorial.  The trip was a tremendously uplifting experience for him.  


Over the years he served the Town of Richmond as a Boy Scout leader and served on several Town Committees, including the Police Advisory Council and the Development Review Board. He served as Town Lister for 18 years. He was a member of the Richmond Fire Department in his early years. He retired from 20 years of service for Richmond Rescue as Intubation Emergency Medical Technician and Crew Chief. He worked for many years in support of the Richmond Food Shelf and Thrift Store.


Al was incredibly involved in the Masonic Fraternity, joining North Star Lodge #12 of Richmond in 1947. He served as Worshipful Master 1953-1954, President of the Past Masters Association in 1956, District Deputy Grand Master of the 5th Masonic District in 1984, Grand Junior Deacon in 1989-90 and served as long time Secretary of North Star Lodge.  Al joined the Scottish Rite Valley of Burlington, VT in 1966, serving in many capacities for over 56 years. He was coronated as 33 Degree Mason in September 1998. Al was a 55-year member of Mt. Sinai Temple #3 Shrine of Montpelier, where he paraded with the Mt. Sinai Relics with his miniature tow truck. Al was also a 73-year member of Friendship Chapter #62 and LaPlotte Chapter #64, Order of the Eastern Star, where he served as Worthy Patron many times.


On September 11, 1948, he married Palma M. Gates in St. Albans. Together they had 4 children, Thomas John (Betty), Linda Marie, Michael Alexis (Maureen) and David Dennis (Tobi Heidenreich). They shared four grandchildren, Mary Parent (Ben Copans), Lauren Parent (Trevor Healy) William “Bill” Barber, and Samantha Parent as well as three great grandsons, Riley, Jonah and Asa.


He was predeceased by his parents, wife Palma, son Thomas, and grandson Bill.


There will be no calling hours. All are invited to a grave side internment service to be held in the family lot at Riverview Cemetery, 600 West Main Street, Richmond, on Friday, July 2, 2021 at 10:30 am. A luncheon will follow the service at the Richmond Congregational Church Fellowship Hall.
