Weldon M. Van Horn

Huntington, VT

Weldon M. Van Horn, 86, of Huntington, VT, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at the St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, St. Albans, VT. He was born on May 23, 1932 in Humbird, WI to Elmer and Marjorie (Biggar) Van Horn.

Weldon proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Staff Sargeant with the Army Security Agency.  He was employed by Georgia Pacific Lumber Company as an outside manager retiring in 1994.

Weldon was a gentle man who saw the kindness and good in others. He was a very compassionate person who was always willing to help those in need. In 1953 Weldon married the love of his life and best friend Christine Savage. Weldon and Chris were married for 65 years and made many happy memories together. He loved his children and was very proud of the adults they became.

He was predeceased by his parents; his mother and father in law; his brothers Wilson and Bernard; his sisters JoAnn and Beverly; and by his beautiful granddaughter Kelli.

Surviving to cherish his memory are his wife Christine, sons Dana (Patty), Patrick, Mike (Liz); daughters Benita (Mark), and Cindy; his sisters Barbara and Jackie and his brother Richard.  Weldon is survived by his grandchildren Theron (Gina), Mallory (Ryan), Jeremy, Ryan, Alex, Ava; Madison, Carson, and great granddaughters, Sofia, Audrie, and Oliva. He loved his grandchildren and they brought great joy to his life.

At Weldon’s request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services. Burial, with full military honors, will be held at a future date and at the convenience of the family.

Special love and thanks go to the devoted caregivers and staff at the St. Albans Health Care and Rehabilitation Center where Weldon spent the last three years with late stage Alzheimer’s disease. Weldon was best known by them for the giant smile and bright blue eyes he possessed. He was treated like family by them and they became part of our family. We would also like to thank the care-givers and staff at UVM Health Network Home Health and Hospice and Bayada Hospice for the wonderful care Weldon received.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Weldon’s memory to a charity of your choice.
