Joseph Francis Bouchard died peacefully at home in Richmond, VT on September 17, 2019.
Joseph (Joe) is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth (Betty) and their children: Stephen (MaryLou) of Egg Harbor City, NJ; Kathleen (John) Elgert of Colchester, VT; Anne Marie (Andrew) Letourneau of Monkton, VT; Theresa (Dan) Gookin of Essex Junction, VT; Mary Bouchard (Will Ploof) of Wilder, VT and Patricia (Rand) Cayer of Candia, NH, and grandchildren; Lauren (Issac Braun) and Aimee Bouchard (fiance Nick Stravous); Peter and Rachel Elgert; Kristiana, Andre and Eliza Letourneau; Jacob and Mila Gookin; Mitchell and Clark Cayer. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers: Alonzo, Caesar and Maryan and sisters; Sylvaine and Francesca.
Joe was born on March 3, 1931 in Essex, NY to Alonzo and Mila Bouchard. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Hammonton, NJ in1949. He attended Rutgers University for two years before enlisting in the US Navy in 1951 where he served as an electrician’s mate until 1955. He married Elizabeth (Lacktis) in 1958. Joe worked for Colonial Electric in Hammonton, NJ and RCA in Camden, NJ, In 1965, he began a long and productive career as a Field Engineer with IBM in NJ transferring to IBM in Vermont in1977.
Although he retired from IBM in 1986, Joe never stopped working; He was an active and dedicated member of the Holy Rosary Church in Richmond, VT and The Knights of Columbus. He was honored with the Knights of Columbus Anchor Award for the State of Vermont in 2017 “in recognition of his outstanding contributions of selfless service to the church and those in need.” He was an all around handyman at home, for family and others in need. He built his log cabin home with his family in Vermont and tended to his home and Alburg camp properties on his Kubota tractor. He was happiest surrounded by and laughing with his family and friends.
