Janice S. Shea
July 14, 1925 - July 30, 2019
Janice (Yvonne) Sheldon Shea was born in Hartford NY on 7/14/1925 to the late Huldah (Fraser) and Clifford Sheldon. She was one of seven children. Six girls: Mildred Guyette, Carolyn Daly (deceased), Christine Thompson, Margaret (Peggy) Pauquette, Elinor Burch and one boy; Gordon Sheldon (deceased). She often spoke of many fond memories on the farm with her family. After graduating from high school, she went to Troy NY to attend a nurses training program. Her dream was to become a flight attendant, which at the time required an RN degree. While in Troy, she met Dr. William B Shea Jr (deceased) and they were married after she completed her training. After living for a time in Bennington Vermont, they headed to Western New York and took up residence in Canandaigua. William B Shea III was born on 5/4/1964 and Maria C (Shea) Nolan on 3/24/1965. Janice loved being a mother and dedicated herself full time to taking care of her family. She was also a very active member of St Mary’s Church, volunteering in the clothing room for many years.
She was instrumental with helping to take care of both of her grandchildren for the first year of their lives. Moving in with her daughter first in 2000 for 8 months to help care for Kira Sheldon Nolan and then again in 2002 for a year to help with Samantha Mae Nolan. At this time, she made a permanent move to the Burlington Vermont area to be closer to her grandchildren. When Kira was very small, Janice was pointing to herself in a photo book telling her “that’s me, me”. She has been known to the girls as Meme ever since. She spent 19 and 17 years with the girls and was involved in many aspects of their lives. She enjoyed shopping, family outings, dining out, travel and even as her years progressed, ‘working hard’. She was busy and active even when her eyesight and hearing were not that kind to her anymore. She always loved a good joke whether she was telling it or attempting to hear it. She would often tell stories of her siblings playing tricks on her and one of her best memories was riding in the truck with her dad. Although her son Bill lives in Florida, he would visit often as he could and he was always close to her heart.
Janice will always be remembered as a loving, caring mother, wife, sibling, friend and grandmother. She is also survived by many extended family members and friends. She passed peaceful on 7/30/2019 to join those who went before. Joy and peace are now yours.
A Memorial service will be held at the South Hartford Church in Hartford NY on 8/15/2019 at 11:00 AM. Family internment will be at Calvary Cemetery on 8/16/2019 in Canandaigua NY.
